What is a resting electrocardiogram?

The principle of static electrocardiogram examination is to collect the electric current generated by the contraction and expansion of the heart from electrodes installed on the chest and hands and feet, and record it on a paper tape.

During a heart examination, medical staff will attach ten metal conductors to the patient, four on the extremities and six on the chest. Based on the information received by each conductor, electronic instruments use different combinations of information to create twelve current patterns. This is the commonly used "12 Leads ECG", which can observe the activity and status of the heart from different angles.

Based on the changes in the recorded waveforms, medical staff speculate on the diseases that the patient may have, including myocardial infarction, heart displacement, pericarditis, arrhythmia, coronary artery insufficiency, electrolyte metabolism imbalance, atrial or ventricular hypertrophy, etc.

    What isCardiac ultrasound?

    Echocardiogram

    An echocardiogram is a test that uses ultrasound waves to visualize the structure of the heart.

    The ultrasound probe can first generate high-frequency sound waves that are inaudible to the human ear. The sound waves pass through the chest wall into the body, detect the position of the heart, and are then received by the probe after reflection. The signal is reorganized by a computer and turned into an image to evaluate the heart function and whether it is functioning normally. Ultrasonic cardiography can be used to obtain real-time images, clearly understand whether the overall contraction of the heart is normal, and can also determine the stenosis or reflux caused by valvular disease, as well as whether there is water accumulation in the pericardium in case of pericarditis, etc. It can also measure blood pressure in the pulmonary artery, helping to diagnose a variety of heart and lung diseases.

    Cardiac ultrasound examination is harmless, painless, convenient and safe to patients, but it also has its limitations.
