What isExercise ECG?

Exercise ECG (running ECG) is a test in which the patient exercises on a treadmill according to the instructions of medical staff. The patient's ECG is recorded using an instrument when the heart load and blood oxygen demand are increased. The purpose is to assess whether the heart is still functioning normally under the increased load. Exercise electrocardiogram is most often used to evaluate coronary heart disease, commonly known as CAD. The principle is that during exercise, myocardial oxygen consumption will increase. If oxygen consumption exceeds supply, the electrocardiogram will show changes in myocardial ischemia or other signs of hidden heart disease.

It is recommended to have an electrocardiogram and other heart examinations regularly every year

  • Men over 35 and women over 40.
  • In daily life, people often experience symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, and difficulty breathing.
  • Have a family history of cardiovascular disease and heart disease.

Precautions

  • Anyone with angina pectoris, heart failure, high blood pressure or severe arrhythmia should not undergo exercise electrocardiogram.
  • Do not do strenuous exercise within 12 hours before the examination.
  • Do not eat or smoke within 1 to 2 hours before the exercise electrocardiogram. You can drink a small amount of water.
